World Blood Donor Day
“Arogya Kavacha” 108 Emergency service was started in the state of Karnataka on November 1, 2008, by the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department under a Private Public Partnership through an MOU signed with GVK EMRI and the project has completed approximately 5.5 years now.  Its main objective is to provide a comprehensive ‘Free Emergency Response Service’ to an individual in need of Medical, Police or Fire emergencies, through a single integrated number – 108.  We operate 24 x 7 and 365 days of the year with a fleet of 517 well equipped ambulances.  Our ambulances are manned by an emergency medicine trained personnel (EMT) and first responder trained driver (Pilot).  This service is available across the length and breadth of Karnataka i.e., all the 30 districts.
This service can be utilized by any individual who requires emergency help (Medical, Police, or Fire) irrespective of his economic status, caste, creed, colour, ethnicity, gender, and/or literacy levels.
We are proud to say that, so far, 108 Emergency services has served more than 32,069,72′ emergencies out of which Pregnancy related cases of 12,31,165 and Road Accidents of 3,01,765.  Lives saved 99,210 and also delivered 31,740 babies on board our ambulances (mostly in the rural areas).
108 Arogya Kavacha is playing a very significant role in improving the institutional deliveries percentage and the reducing the IMR and MMR rates in Karnataka over the last 5.5 years.
To make these above statistics happen, our Emergency Response Officers, EMTs, Pilots & Doctors strive hard across all weather and geographical terrains serving the people who are in distress 24 x 7 irrespective of festivals, holidays, and weekends with extraordinary commitment and passion.
Therefore, it gives us immense pleasure to honour these wonderful people for rendering the most critical service to the society by not only saving precious lives but also securing the valuables of the victims found at the scene.  Therefore, providing most efficient pre-hospital care with honesty and integrity.

Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate “World Blood Donor Day.” The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.  The theme is Give the gift of life: donate blood.
